Productivity Tips from a Professional

Spring Cleaning is happening! Sorry that I am unable to track where this came from. It is not mine!

Worth sharing all the same:

Here are his tips for staying productive:

  1. Work backwards from goals to milestones to tasks. Writing “launch company website” at the top of your to-do list is a sure way to make sure you never get it done. Break down the work into smaller and smaller chunks until you have specific tasks that can be accomplished in a few hours or less: Sketch a wireframe, outline an introduction for the homepage video, etc. That’s how you set goals and actually succeed in crossing them off your list.
  2. Stop multi-tasking. No, seriously—stop. Switching from task to task quickly does not work. In fact, changing tasks more than 10 times in a day makes you dumber than being stoned. When you’re stoned, your IQ drops by five points. When you multitask, it drops by an average of 10 points, 15 for men, five for women (yes, men are three times as bad at multitasking than women).
  3. Be militant about eliminating distractions. Lock your door, put a sign up, turn off your phone, texts, email, and instant messaging. In fact, if you know you may sneak a peek at your email, set it to offline mode, or even turn off your Internet connection. Go to a quiet area and focus on completing one task.
  4. Schedule your email. Pick two or three times during the day when you’re going to use your email. Checking your email constantly throughout the day creates a ton of noise and kills your productivity.
  5. Use the phone. Email isn’t meant for conversations. Don’t reply more than twice to an email. Pick up the phone instead.
  6. Work on your own agenda. Don’t let something else set your day. Most people go right to their emails and start freaking out. You will end up at inbox-zero, but accomplish nothing. After you wake up, drink water so you rehydrate, eat a good breakfast to replenish your glucose, then set prioritized goals for the rest of your day.
  7. Work in 60 to 90 minute intervals. Your brain uses up more glucose than any other bodily activity. Typically you will have spent most of it after 60-90 minutes. (That’s why you feel so burned out after super long meetings.) So take a break: Get up, go for a walk, have a snack, do something completely different to recharge. And yes, that means you need an extra hour for breaks, not including lunch, so if you’re required to get eight hours of work done each day, plan to be there for 9.5-10 hours

This is some very helpful advice. I am already putting it to good use. How about you?

Carles Blog Bio Draft 2010

The plan is to establish communication structures that lead to active participation. Communication is a dialogue. Please join the conversation!

Carles Blog began in the Fall of ’09 as a personal project with a few intentions in mind: to keep me focused on my overarching intentions and goals, to act as an easily accessible cure for boredom, to open myself up in order to find other people of a similar nature, and to act as an easy reference for potential collaborators/employers. To date, it’s been successful!

This blog is me in a nutshell. Most everything I get into I blog about, so it’s kind of all over the place.  To see what I’m into, start by checking out who I follow on Twitter.

As everything else in my life, it’s a work in progress- but it draws a decent picture. Essentially, I’m working towards self-betterment in order to achieve world betterment. Sometimes it’s a juggle between the two.

The old foundation is still being ripped up, so that the new pillars have a stronger foundation on which to stand.

I’m serious.  I like to have a jolly good time. I struggle.

No one is perfect, if you’ve reached perfection you wouldn’t be reading my blog or any other blog for that matter. Some of what is said here is stated for the pure fact that I need to drill it into my own brain.

Sometimes I later disagree with my own arguments.

A bit rough around the edges, I used to swear here because I swore everywhere else. I’ve learned that it’s not that good to swear. Even though the word FUCK is sooooo colorful! So, I’m working on peppering in other language that ‘s just as decorative.

I do edit my posts. And, I always feel its best to have an outside editor. In this case, there’s none available. Please forgive any misspellings or punctuation errors. They usually occur in the case of changing the way a thought is phrased.

During my down time, I learn how to cook, bake, & sew.

I whole heartedly believe that food is medicine. While cooking I wonder if my attitude towards it ever causes others to wonder whether or not I am a witch. I really do dream of being Susie Homemaker!

Though in my daydream, I always have a house in the back where I can retreat to be alone.

The word “I” is most likely one of my least favorite to use- EVER! It is a constant goal to be more creative, since it is assumed that since I am writing it, that it is my opinion!

I LOVE self expression and communication!

Graduating college in the Spring of ’08 just as the economy went KERPLUNK! Actually, opened me up to a world of experiences and opportunities that would not have been available otherwise. My career has plumped out nicely to be just that- a career.

One that is fully committed to the complete overhaul & rejuvenation of:

Dear Mother Earth

The world of business– particularly in areas of morality

Personal SELF betterment

Claiming Power Clocking Hours

Greetings, Carly here once again with a story for you to attend.

Mars is preparing its forward motion as we speak. Finally, my fingers are ready to leap!

Mars is a militant planet which controls action! Since its retreat in February our attentions have been turned inward. Gears grinding. I keep self reminding– that we’re in this for the long haul. It’s okay to stall. Especially, for carefully planned preparation. Which is the blessing this retrograde has bestowed upon us all.

I’m here to share a bit about my new career as a Figure Model. More importantly to touch upon the Life Lessons which have lead me down this path:

  • Self Acceptance

  • Self Assertion

People LOVE me. All kinds of people, who I meet all over. Not just the ones

Thanks, Bodo
Thanks, Bodo

who get to see me naked. And, up until very recently I have been hating them.

Unable to see the good in myself, it was an endlessly frustrating experience to have others show their appreciation. Then, has repulsion would have it– the more I hated it the more it would happen.

Until the fateful day (Scorpio New Moon, 2013) when I stripped down for a group of artists over 50. With Fear out of the way I was empowered with the freedom to consider options outside of self loathing.

Given time to sit & think slowly I began to unravel.

Along came Lesson #2. Guess what? I, Carly the Model, is in Control.

Or, at least that’s what they would have you believe. In order to have control you must take it. And, while sex drives do no belong in a nude studio undoubtedly the human condition takes precedence over Man Made Rules.

Allowing people to cross my boundaries in humiliating. Only worsened by that fact that I am naked on top of that. Which really aids in lighting a fire for me to speak up. Yay!

For now, these lessons are being hammered in. Time & time again.

Please, follow along as this girl learns through Figure Modeling what it means to walk a Life Path Number 11.

Returning to Center

Hello!

I used to live a double life. Which really isn’t as exciting as it sounds. More stressful really.

What was happening in actuality was that I was unhappy with the choices I had made. So, in order to express my pain clearly I made the executive decision to create a pen named space where I was able to write freely without having to worry about anyone who knew me reading.

Until the fateful day when the one person I had hoped to hide from found my writings and read them all. Betrayal isn’t even a word to be applied here. Because I was the one all along not living in Truth.

My hope is that these days are behind me now. That it is no longer necessary for me to hide my Self from all of you.

It was only ever my own mind that convinced me to.

Right now, I work primarily as a model. A muse really for artists in need of inspiration. Sometimes this requires me to be nude. While posing portrait the other day I decided that it was time to solidify. Be me. Just me. And, to make no apology.

I feel that there have been many teaser introductions in recent past of things to come. Finally, now I have reached a healthy level of Self Acceptance to do my work without worry.

So, get ready. Because now I am officially ready to share myself with you!!

Sitting with Francis Bacon at Lill St. Drawing Workshop

Francis Bacon is a surrealist whose works capture the human spirit. His portraits & figures appear blurry.

Francis Bacon Self-Portrait

Demonstrating the abstract piece of permanence which exists within us all.

Bacon was introduced to me while posing at Lill Street Art Center for Bob Horn’s Portrait Class.

Peeking through the pages of his biography during breaks provided me with the inspiring insights of what art can do when one is willing to let loose.

I have chosen the path of Posing in order to practice Following the Rules.

Stepping slowly towards success. Managing my own calendar. Following up in a timely manner. Arriving to work not on time- early. All in an effort to claim my Power.

True Strength and actual Security exist within the houses which we

carry with us. Releasing the fear and anxiety that I have been clinging to in regards to my own body is a blessing so big that it’s price is penniless.

Keep up for more posts on what I find out as I travel down this rabbit hole.

Aho!

Sound. Bite

People remember sound bites.

What is a sound bite?

A sound bite is a small piece of audio material.

image

It doesn’t matter how long or, profound a speech, movie or even relationship is. It’s the take away that counts.

I’ll be back.

Fuck you, I’m out!

Even, I have a Dream!

While this notion of a sound bite is a media concept its integrity holds True in Real Life too.

For example, my Grandfather will always be remembered for saying:

You know somethin’? I Love You!

It’s quite possible that for the rest of my Life I will only remember him saying this.

On another topic. Anger decreases an IQ by 20% (or more).

Be very careful of what you say and to whom you speak it to.

It is a true tragedy to spend an  insurmountable time investing in something only to quickly speak words that you will forever regret.

Remember:
Choose words wisely   &
Create positive nibblers for folks to remember.

Poisoned on Thanksgiving

For the past few years I’ve been flip flopping my diet, depending on the dish.

Looking longingly at my gluten-free, lactose free friends who hold composure as I bite into whatever is delicious!

Lately, I’ve been a bit recluse & feeling the pain of my indecision. Choosing more often to stick with what’s right over what tastes good. Not that eating healthy has to taste bad. It’s just rarely placed on the table in front of me…

Thanksgiving was a true test of endurance. Sticking with celery sticks for most of the Appetizer Hour. Avoiding the array of cheeses & nacho cheese dips.

It wasn’t until a cousin came and plopped down stuffed mushrooms right in front of me that I keeled. Eating far too many.

The pumpkin dessert didn’t make my night any better.

Dinner was good! I was able to stay the course with what is truly nourishing for my body.

That night I was begging for the ER.  Crappy cheese with just a little bit of white bread created a serious STOPPAGE in my digestive system!! Inflaming my intestines.

Never have I ever experienced such pain. FOOD POISONING. On Thanksgiving.

Rest assured, the lesson has been learned. It is crucial to stick  with what I know will serve my body good. To stay away from the items that my taste buds are simply used to having placed upon them.

Friday was sickly. Saturday dedicated largely to recovery.

Another thought this brings up: Christmas should be served in courses.

Slow Food
