Social Networking Breakfast with BNI

Good morning!

I sang as I rode from Rogers Park to the adorable Golden Apple on the corner of Lincoln & South Port.

To meet a lovely group of Professionals for breakfast at 7am!! A breakfast network called BNI, who this year collectively gathered around 65K by weaving their web of individuals.

Waking up before the Sun is not a regular habit of mine. It has been however, a long standing intention. One that I am now sure I can stick to. Or, at  least meet once weekly.

(Am yawning as I write you. Though in sticking to my boundaries I chose tea over coffee.)

On to business!! This group was very efficient. My buddy Dave, who extended the invitation was looking at his watch as I rode up.

6:25 on the dot!

He and I are both ruled by Time…

Of course, my outfit was a tad more colorful than the typical business attire.  Though, I do feel that I did a GOOD JOB explaining my Bridge Building Business Professional spiel.

And, hurrah!! To me for taking the step forward & volunteering my way into this event for the Opportunity. (It’s Positive Reinforcement to Pat YourSelf on the Back).

Networking is an essential function in forward propulsion.

While in attendance of this breakfast I was remindred of the Importance in Following the Rules. I can’t help but to be colorful! Still, it’s a lot to ask of others to understand that I am a Bridge Building Business Professional.

Life Coach & Consultant came up as “alternatives.”  So, perhaps I will forgo long explanations and simply say  that.

From my stance however, I do like to ask people to think. Furthering conversation and leaving doors open.

Organizing Accounting

image

A transient sun glass salesman once asked me out for drinks. As a “Yes” Lady, I obliged him for a brew ha-ha!

Most dates are meetings. Interviews are dates. Etc… the intention to get to know one another is the same. In order to decipher whether or not greater intimacy is worthwhile…

We had a gas! This salesman was a blast. I even considered flying South with him for the Winter. If only flight didn’t mean committing to living out of an already jam packed mini van. : )

Tips & tricks were shared while we drank down a coupla beers.

One that he shared is mighty fantastic!

Fortuitously for me not too long after this I found myself deep in the murky waters of Accounting.

As a small business Secretary I was excited at the opportunity to put my new knowledge to good use…

Organization is a friendly game when played with posterity.

At Pedal to the People we staple, tape or otherwise adhese all of our important receipts & repair tags to notebook pages.

Like this:

My transient friend does not have a lot of space. Neither do we!

This way allows us to save room for other clutter. And, keeps away additional pile up.

We go like this: enter into QuickBooks the specifics. And, staple the receipt.

Labels are nice too.

Striding Towards Simplicity

Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication

Says Leonardo DaVinci.

This is a post about transition…

Choice. A consumer driven concept. Or, is it?

Choice has lead me to creativity, clutter & in-decision. To name a few.

My newest choice is to live a simple life. Getting there has been complicated.

Pairing down & verifying importance of items owned.

Utility counts!

I have moved from being a typical American consumer to a person who will hold out until the right item manifests from thin air. Sometimes that is exactly what happens.

Knowing your needs is very important also.

If you do not know already: I work with others to ignite change in their own lives.

It can be a gruelling process. Or, not. That is up to you!

Call me. Let’s make a change you can count on.

Pro- Tip Common Mistake in Self -Promotion

Thinking your name matters.

All too often signage, postcards & press releases speak of a REALLY great event! And, goes on to name who is behind its awesomeness.

The problem with that is a severe lack of description.

Why? Is Carly Evans worth seeing in person?

If you are new to a subject with interest simply seeing a persons name does not provide enough information to formulate a decision.

How about this:
Show on Saturday! Mimes. Jugglers. Slackers & Fire Spinners!
Carly Evans will charm your pants off as its Conductor.

So many are taking the reigns into their own hands these days. Entrepreneurs.

Ego is an obvious pitfall when all I read are names. No media outlet will accept it.

And, it doesn’t do the job of wrangling in potential prospects.

In conclusion, use adjectives.
Know that what you are doing is much greater in enticing audiences than you are.

Going with the flow

Welcome, to Monday!

This morning I relinquished myself from a small business incubation project. Focused on produce.

The project made me question my skills & ability to do “start-up.” Forcing me to think badly about all of the work I’ve put in over the last five years of my professional development.

My ultimate conclusion is that this particular project simply isn’t for me.

So, ladies, gentleman & potential employers everywhere! Who needs a go-getter , project manager with a firm background in people?

Here is a slideshow from The Vintage Bazaar on August 12, 2012.

Playing dress up is certainly one of my favorite past times, this show demonstrates that point clearly. Betty & I celebrated this event by wearing our last day at the beach wear. Typical of a last beach day it was cloudy & cool. But we didn’t care! TVB, August truly was a great time.

Now we’re ready for Fall & will be back once more, this time at the Renegade Craft Fair!!

See you soon!!

My goal for this show: to SELL OUT!!
More on this later, for now it is suffice to say that the selling of garments has been a fun learning experience & it is not a career path that I wish to pursue any further.

For now though, I’ve got some great stuff that’s in need of new home!

Come n’ get it!
