“Free Haircut. Barber’s Choice”

Two weeks ago while attending Renegade Craft Fair I saw a sign that read “Free Haircut. Barber’s Choice.”

I happened to be familiar with this Barber and thought him to be attractive.

So, I got in line and stood there for an hour.

Making a new friend while I waited.
Tanner, a Seattle migrant here to join the circus!

When it came my time to sit in the chair Doug, the Barber warned me that it could be scary!

And, that he made no promises about the outcome.

Will you please just make me look pretty? I asked.

I don’t have to do that. He replied. : )

We chatted it up as he snipped away my golden locks. Crowds gathered to watch as a girl with once lengthy hair have it taken away– without any say in the end result…

As Doug worked I watched the eyes of a teenage Indian girl who sat on the ground before me.

Telling her friends how badly she wanted to do the same, yet was afraid. She was in awe.

Once the work was done the crowd roared with excitement.

I leapt from my seat to snatch up the lucky penny that glistened at me.

Gave it to Doug in gratitude for his good work.

Then I went away.

Pleased. Once I was able to see a reflection of me.

The Story You Choose to Tell is the Only One that Matters

As long as it is the Truth.

The stories we tell ourselves create who we are.

Have you ever been with someone long enough to hear them sing the same song twice?

Or, more?!

Back in my day…

Those epic tales that fiercely demonstrate who we are as a people.

For example, the Bible.

Imagine this: three young children all anxiously going wild to tell you their version of how the cat landed in the paint bucket!

Split those children apart. Have them each share their story separately and weigh your conclusions carefully.. : )

How about the lies we tell ourselves?

Oh, she makes me happy.

Our break-up is entirely his fault!

Stories bear a heavy weight on how we perceive ourselves.

And, how we allow others to perceive us.

One story that keeps resurfacing in my life is that of the victim.

People run to me with tragic sob stories. Stories of whoa. On how the world has mistreated them.

How about the stories we choose to tell ourselves?

I am a self-reliant individual  who accepts responsibility for my own reality.

Perhaps, these folk are sharing their stories of horror with me as a friendly reminder from the universe to not act like that.

I will verify that at one point I was a victim. And, the stories I clung to from that quickly fleeting situation did the most damage!!

Worse, I was afraid to tell my story. I victimized myself with my own thoughts. Because I told myself that I was bad for ever even allowing something like that to happen.

I choose not to be that person any longer.

I am a rape survivor.

Who owes many thanks, gratitude & an explanation to her mother. For never having told her the reason why I suffered.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” ~ Maya Angelou

Striding Towards Simplicity

Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication

.

So says Leonardo DaVinci.

This is a post about transition…

Choice. A consumer driven concept. Or, is it?

My newest choice is to life a simple life. Getting there has been complicated.

What is simple?

Simple according to Webster, means presenting no difficulty.

What in your life causes difficulty?

For me, it’s been having too much stuff.
Choice leads to clutter. Over stimulation.

No need to beat yourself up over having stuff. We all do!

What we keep lying around causes enough havoc in our lives…

Simplicity-  having the ability to reach multiple outcomes with a single tool.

Like an adjustable wrench.
Or, my favorite brown merino wool top. Sexy, sophisticated & logical for biking around a big city.

Simplicity for me is being able to work leas and accomplish more!

In deciding to keep or can an item ask yourself: Does this suit me? Will this item work with me to bring my best self forward?

Aho!

Chicago Closet Organization

Hello!!

Carly here, back with some more exciting news.

Closet Counciltations are officially OPEN for business!

What is a closet counciltation?
It is a process:
We begin by discussing You! Who you are, how you feel, where you are going, etc…

Then, we evaluate your wardrobe. As is. We play dress up. We establish needs. We talk through the process. Every step of the way. Organization flourishes. Maybe we go shopping.

And, nothing is taken away until at least my second visit.

This service is great for everybody!
Men are my preferred clientelle.
Movers really appreciate my help: downsizing.
And, at the end of the day each person I work with comes out feeling better about their own individual identity.

At Carly’s Closet Counciltations our motto is Confidence equals Comfortability.
You have to feel comfortable. In your own skin. I’m the clothing you wear. In order to exude confidence. And, the world deserves the presents of your presence!!

Status Report: UpDate

Everybody smokes.

Walking towards the Royal Café today. Where I now sit. Everybody was smoking cigarettes.

The workman outside my front door were chugging down the smokey smokes as I left my house. Drivers in their cars pulling out sticks at stop lights. Men sipping that caffeinated goodness a few tables behind me. Folks just cruisin’ on foot puff away at the stuff. My mother drags on one and I can hear it through the intercom of the telephone.

Today, everybody smokes. Except me.

(yippee!)
